The History Of 5th Buddhist Council In Arakan By Ashon Kusala

Many people can have a doubt about the historical record of 5th Buddhist Council that was held in Arakan Vesali-kyauk-hle-gar period during King Siridhammavijaya (Siricandra King) (327 A.D. to 818 A.D.). If Arakan Kingdom had not been conquered by Burmese King, Bodaw Phaya in 1784 A.D (1146 Arakan Era), such doubt would have appeared in their thoughts.

The reason why is that  during the Burmese King almost all Arakanese historical records were brought to Burmese Kingdom, Amarapura; and were burnt down. From 1784 A.D. up to now, it have been for us, Arakanese who have no chance to publish freely our Arakan historical books  for 300 years. The 5th Buddhist council plays in the most important and essential role in the History of Buddhism in Arakan; the place where the Buddhist council was held is located near old city of Vesali, about six miles from Mrauk-U, and north part of current Vesali Village, is called 'Than-ga-ya-na-kun-mray' (meaning the mountain where the Buddhist Council was hele), also known as Tha-ret-cho taung. 500 bhikkhus from Ceylon and 1500 Arakanese bhikkhus took part in the 5th Buddhist council in Arakan.

In this book, the author explain  in detail  about  the History of 5th Buddhist COuncile in Arakan with the strong evidence.
